For Sake of Life is an integrated, two-year program of the Saskatoon Children's Choir
focused on artistic excellence, choral performance and international awareness.
It was
inspired by the very special experience of meeting and singing with renowned choirs from
around the world at the Kathaumixw International Choral Festival in July of 2000. There the
SCC learned that music can be a common language which crosses cultures and borders, and
that all children can be a voice for peace. Through their For Sake of Life project, the
Saskatoon Children's Choir demonstrate their conviction that all young people can work for
peace and contribute to building of a future of hope for the world, for sake of life.
The SCC For Sake of Life project was premiered at the SCC 2000 Christmas concert. In this
special seasonal event, the choiristers offered an international repertoire of music, recalling
the angels' message of peace to a wounded and weary world. Songs of both suffering and
hope connected with poetry to bring to mind the effects on children of situations of violence,
conflict and war. In this way, the SCC shared their conviction that all young people can work
for peace and contribute to building a future of hope, for sake of life.
The SCC especially remembers the many children who are victims of anti-personnel
landmines and invites all to consider what they can do to make peace grow like a flower.
