Objectives of the Saskatoon Children's Choir

• To nurture the singers' appreciation for fine music, and encourage them to approach their studies with intelligence, creativity and musicianship

• To foster an understanding of and appreciation for music from Canada

• To study and perform music from other parts of the globe, extending through choral music the singers' understanding of their role in a global community

• To inspire audience members and others affiliated with the choir to support artistic and humanitarian endeavors

• To communicate a message of hope in a world where children suffer from war and conflict

• To demonstrate that all young people can take concrete steps towards creating a more peaceful world

Vision Statement

The Saskatoon Children' Choir aims to:

1. Provide vocal training, music education, and performance opportunities to qualified singers in an environment that strives for artistic excellence and professionalism.

2. Offer high quality choral performances to the community at large, while developing the musical skills and self-esteem of individual young performers.

3. Encourage future involvement in artistic opportunities for young singers and promote a lifelong love of music.

Touring and International Festivals

Touring is an integral part of the culture of choirs. It provides opportunities for singers to connect with the people in other parts of their own country, and even extend their experience beyond their own borders. Inherent in the tour experience are opportunities to practice rehearsal skills, heightened musicianship, leadership, cooperation, curiousity, ambassadorship, bonding, and personal responsibility. When young people extend their experience beyond their community, they are putting in place a capacity to understand the world beyond home. When singers bring their music to different audiences, they are sharing a rich part of who we are. It is in this spirit that the Saskatoon Children's Choir endeavours to travel each year.

The chance to participate in international festivals offers many opportunities. By living and singing with people from different cultures we will enhance our experience of our world and its people. When children, youth and adults come together from around the globe with a common love of artistic expression, there is potential for true understanding.
