Our Vision & Values

The Saskatoon Children's Choir believes all children can be a voice for positive change in the world.

Our Values

1

To nurture our singers’ appreciation for fine music, and encourage them to approach their studies with intelligence, creativity, and musicianship

2

To foster an understanding of, and appreciation for, music from Canada

3

To study and perform music from other parts of the world, extending through choral music our singers’ understanding of their role in a global community

4

To inspire audience members and other affiliated with the choir to support artistic and humanitarian endeavours

5

To communicate a message of hope in a world where children suffer from war and conflict

6

To demonstrate that all young people can take concrete steps toward creating a world of tolerance and peace.

Our Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Our Diversity and Inclusion Statement

We are committed to fostering an inclusive, safe, and welcoming environment - where diversity is not only valued but celebrated. Among our staff, choristers, musical partners, volunteers, audiences, and board, we strive to build a culture of fairness, transparency, and equity. We acknowledge the historic and ongoing inequalities that exist in our society and in the world of early European music, and we are dedicated to becoming a community that amplifies underrepresented voices. To us, the enriching value of diversity includes all races, ethnicities, cultures, genders, sexualities, religions, abilities, ages, neurodiversities, and economic backgrounds. We aim to strengthen our community by fostering connections among singers that go beyond weekly rehearsals, and by modeling creativity, generosity, and a willingness to listen. As we continue our journey toward a more purposefully inclusive and equitable future, we seek to uplift and prepare the next generation of musical leaders. May our words, actions, programming, and artistic choices reflect the justice, compassion, and belonging we believe in.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we rehearse and perform on the Lands of Treaty 6, and the homeland of the Metis. We reaffirm our relations which we are bound to by our ancestors through Treaty, to steward this land and seek mutual benefit for as long as the grass grows, the sun shines, and the river flows.

In the spirit of ally-ship and mutual respect, we will take the path of Truth and Reconciliation to create change, awareness and equity as we strive to elevate the collective consciousness of society.
